Declutter for Equity: How to Maximize Your Home’s Value Before Selling

August 6, 2024

Presented by Jenilyn Martinez, Miami Real Estate Agent with Compass.

Less Clutter, More Equity! It’s that simple. You want the buyer to picture themselves living in your home. This should be the first project you tackle months in advance before listing your home with a real estate agent. The rule of thumb is that for every decade you lived in the home, it will take you a month to declutter.

I highly suggest removing all personal pictures, trinkets, cleaning and organizing all closets, tidying under the kitchen sink, and decluttering pantries and kitchen cabinets. You want to appeal to the most buyers, and they should be able to picture themselves living there; however, that will only happen if they can picture their stuff in your home.

Once you have decluttered, make sure you invest in a deep cleaning. See my post on the must-tackle areas in a home.
